Our Voice, Their Future: Former Foster Youth Recommendations for Children in Care
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s Foster Youth Intern Program Briefing, “Our Voice, Their Future.” Created in 2003, the program provides former foster youth with an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to intern in congressional offices. Utilizing their personal experience in foster care, interns prepare carefully researched reports and offer policy recommendations to improve the child welfare system. The summer program culminates with a briefing attended by congressional staff, foster care and adoption advocates, and other key policymakers.Continue Reading
