Infant Adoption Awareness Training Program - June 24, 2003

  • The Project has surpassed the 1,200 Adoption Specialists mark. The most "remote" training to date will take place next week in Hawaii.
  • Interviews are taking place this week for Master Trainers in Region I. Region II candidates will be interviewed next week. Interviews in Regions III and IV will take place in July.
  • While the trainings are happening at a fairly rapid pace at the present time, the Project is still in a "catch-up" mode. Completing curricula and achieving HHS approvals took much longer than originally anticipated. Still, staff members are planning activities in such a way as to maximize trainings (and results) in the next 15 months.
  • A revised budget has been prepared and submitted to HHS for consideration. It proposes the use of unused year two funds in year three.
  • The Project’s first Spanish language brochures will soon be ready for distribution.
  • Registration materials for the Adoption Specialist Conference have been distributed. Dates are September 25-27. Location is the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Of course, NCFA Board members are welcome to attend.
  • The public information campaign is about to see the light of day. The news release announcing the campaign is scheduled for distribution this week. Actual broadcast and print materials will be sent to media outlets in July and August.
  • Finally, a few words from the field: "I cannot tell you how valuable I found the Infant Adoption Awareness Program to be. I am a public health nurse who counsels pregnant women and I am very excited and motivated to use the skills I recently acquired." Adoption Specialist, Idaho Also, "Just wanted you to be aware that we admitted a new maternity client into our home. She was referred by one of the Adoption Specialists from Planned Parenthood who attended the Dallas training. Thanks for the work you're doing! You are making a difference." Master Trainer, Texas. And one more (the best of all): "Since training, I have helped eight women and teens to make adoption plans for their babies. Before that we had about one adoption a year." Adoption Specialist, Florida
