S1931: Legislation to make adoption tax credit permanent

Senator Jim Bunning introduced legislation on November 22, to make permanent the adoption assistance and adoption tax credit programs, which are set to expire in 2010. The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 doubled the adoption tax credit from $5,000 to $10,000, though with a sunset provision. S1931 will make the tax credit permanent. Read Senator Bunning’s press release, which references NCFA’s support for the bill. S1931 has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee. Rep. Jim DeMint (R-SC) introduced identical legislation in March of this year, which was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
